I grew up here in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
[00:00:10.250]
I have been here all my life
except for education.
[00:00:12.967]
I went to college
at Florida State University
[00:00:15.725]
for four years.
[00:00:16.484]
I went to the University of Tennessee
Health Science Center
[00:00:18.809]
to get my dental degree
in Memphis, Tennessee.
[00:00:21.258]
I did one year of residency
[00:00:22.493]
at the University of Mississippi
Medical Center.
[00:00:24.450]
I was able to learn
about the medical side of dentistry
[00:00:27.808]
that we don't get taught in dental school.
[00:00:29.692]
After that, I've been back
to Chattanooga to raise my family.
[00:00:32.583]
I have three children.
[00:00:33.941]
Chattanooga is a wonderful place
to grow up,
[00:00:35.809]
and I wanted my family
to experience that as well.
[00:00:38.675]
I worked with my father
for about eight years,
[00:00:41.125]
from 1996 until 2004.
[00:00:43.920]
I was able to take
a handful of patients or so
[00:00:46.318]
from my dad's practice
that I had been working on
[00:00:47.967]
for the last eight years,
and that helped me start.
[00:00:50.450]
At the same time,
I had been working at Orange Grove Center,
[00:00:53.208]
here in Chattanooga
[00:00:53.984]
that deals with mentally
and physically handicapped adults.
[00:00:56.683]
I was able to start to treat
[00:00:58.292]
those types of patients
in the hospital setting,
[00:01:01.026]
since I was trained in hospital dentistry
during my residency.
[00:01:04.567]
I enjoy treating people.
[00:01:05.993]
I enjoy visiting with them
and getting them to better health.
[00:01:09.450]
Nothing puts a smile on my face
more than to have somebody come in
[00:01:13.125]
with either a crooked smile
or a bad abscess tooth,
[00:01:17.690]
and that they get better,
[00:01:19.092]
and they can enjoy the things
that are in life.
[00:01:21.275]
It's not crippling to them anymore.
[00:01:23.633]
They actually are enjoying life
more so than anything else.
