Foods That Naturally Protect and Clean Teeth By docandy15 on October 16, 2012

A few months ago I tweeted about certain foods that are considered teeth friendly.  The response was very positive so I’d like to let you know what some of these teeth friendly foods are and their benefits.

Brighten and strengthen your teeth with the following foods:

Cheese helps your mouth plus adds some great benefits. Cheese helps mineralize the teeth, thanks to the natural content of Calcium, proteins and phosphorus.  The cheese also neutralizes the acids in your mouth, leaving your teeth feeling healthy. Basil is a natural antibiotic and will help reduce and block bacteria multiplying in the mouth.  Sesame seeds are a natural scrubbing toothbrush.  A few teaspoons of these seeds 2 to 3 times per week will help eliminate plaque deposits.  Broccoli provides protection to your teeth.  This vegetable is high in iron and builds a thin film on your teeth, protecting them from harmful acids.  Ginger Root a try for an extra healthy mouth.  Ginger has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial ingredients that maintain healthy mouth tissue.  This is a great food for patient's with periodontal (gum) disease.  Raw vegetables, like carrots, onions, and celery, help clean plaque from teeth and freshen breath by getting rid of the harmful bacteria inside your mouth.  Crisp fruits like Oranges, Strawberries, Apples and Bananas help to whiten but help fortify the enamel of around your teeth.

Ongoing research indicates that antioxidants and other nutrients found in fruits, vegetables, legumes and nuts may strengthen immunity and improve the body’s ability to fight bacteria and inflammation, all of which can help protect the teeth and gums. And some foods and dietary habits even have distinct effects on the mouth’s ability to handle cavity-causing bacteria attacks. Give these teeth friendly foods a try and you will be on your way to having a beautiful and healthy smile in no time.  Oh, and by the way, you can follow me on office twitter account at @Chatdentistry.
